Moncler specialises in the design of high-end down jackets, fur-collar padded coats and outdoor apparel. The company started out selling technical products for mountain sports. But the meeting with Alpine ski champion Lionel Terray, the brand's future technical advisor, was a game-changer and saw Moncler strike out in the world of clothing design.
Founded in 1952 by René Ramillon, Moncler took its name from Monestier-de-Clermont, the village where it originated. It was a supplier of expedition equipment, and kitted out the French ski team at the Grenoble Winter Olympics.
It's since transformed itself into a luxury cold weather clothing label, adding an element of stylish and cosy design to outdoor and sports apparel.
The brand was acquired by the Italian franchise Remo Ruffini and has stores in major cities around the world. The iconic down jacket has become a high fashion item and claimed its rightful place both in our wardrobes and on the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris.
From the ski slopes to the city streets, it's got it wrapped up!
