The story

Hubert de Givenchy learnt about fashion design alongside Lelong and Schiaparelli, before creating 'Les Séparates' in 1952, a collection comprising lightweight skirts and blouses with puff sleeves that marked the beginnings of his casual chic style. He then met Audrey Hepburn, who would become both a customer and the brand's muse for 40 years. The actress undeniably played a part in Givenchy's success, in particular thanks to Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

In 1958, the designer launched his first fragrance, 'L’Interdit' and then 10 years later a first menswear line, 'Gentleman Givenchy'. In the 1970s, the label created bags and accessories that rapidly became star products.

Givenchy today

Numerous well-known names followed on from the brand's founder: John Galliano, Alexander McQueen and the current creative director, Riccardo Tisci. The latter has renewed the label's image in a departure from Hubert de Givenchy's heritage and met with immediate success thanks to such muses as Alicia Keys and Uma Thurman.
